Down but not out…TAKE 2!

March 22, 2012

I have been Skyping with my class to hold  discussions, go over assignments, etc for the past 2 weeks since I have been home due to surgery which was going really well but I felt the discussion were  lacking something, so I began fooling around with WizIQ and decided to give it a try.  This program allowed me to not only video chat with the class but easily share my desktop and best of all be able to interact with all of them via the chat box as well as post ‘poll’ questions for instant feedback.

It took the students a little time to get started but once a few logged in and started interacting with me the flood gates opened.  This platform was really effective because it gave all the students a chance to contribute especially those who are usually a little shy to raise their hands.

I also found that some students who are quiet in class were very much the opposite in our chat discussion which gave me the chance to see them in a much different way.  Those students, if I were to guess, are probably much like myself in that they are much more comfortable expressing themselves with a keyboard then speaking.  This is another reason why I think it is important to include many different types of platforms in your classroom for discussion.  Just as we all know students learn differently they express themselves differently as well.

Below is a screen capture from today’s class.
